Catching the probelm at its earliest incidence is key to putting the bed bugs behind you. This product comes in sets of 4 and a bulk package of 12. Products claiming to do the same thing have been released on the market but as the test results show (and our own use of different products have shown) the Bed Bug Defender is not comparable to other Bed Bug monitors. This product works well consistantly, it traps the bed bugs in its wells and they cannot escape. Please see the release from the manufacturer below:

This is a new treatment option for bedbugs featuring CRYONITE.

Using the newest technology for getting rid of bed bugs and without the use of harsh pesticides or chemicals, Cryonite kills bedbugs (including their eggs and larvae) and other insects by freezing them with carbon dioxide or “dry ice”. “The snow”, carbon dioxide, can penetrate deep into cracks and crevices, inside long pipes and even complicated home equipment. Cryonite treats many surfaces safely and effectively.

Cryonite can be used in traditionally hard-to-treat locations such as hospitals, hotels, dormitories, food processing facilities and offices. The room (or space treated) can also be immediately re-occupied. No waiting for hours to get back into your home.

OUR LATEST WORK

Carbon dioxide snow (“dry ice” snow) is very cold, -78C (-108F). And, thus, the method kills bugs by rapid freezing. The Cryonite effect – the rapid freezing – is dependent on a certain mix of particle sizes and speeds. There are several phases in the cooling process. Each phase has a combination of a particle size and a particle speed, optimized for attaining the cooling rate maximum. One of the most crusial parts of the freezing is the speed. For the efficient energy transfer, the snow-particles need significant contact with the target (bug or surface). A higher speed allows for a good, contact-making impact on the target. The speed is also helps the snow penetrate deep into thin cracks and crevices. Speed propels them through long pipes, equipment, cracks and crevices and other hard-to-treat areas.

Cryonite is a new pest control technology with great potential. It has been used extensively in Europe, Australia and the United States with proven results. Cryonite is unique because it’s not only effective in killing pests, it’s environmentally-safe, 100% organic and hygienic. ” No resistance build-up as with pesticides – will remain effective i.e. Cryonite kills bugs resistant to pesticides

Advantages Of Cryonite

Completely safe and non-toxic!

Treatment is completely dry and residue free.

No residue, tenants and guests can return to their suites immediately after treatment

Can be used in any building whether residential or commercial, including surfaces used in food preparation.

” There’s no need to stop your production line, any critical problems can be dealt with swiftly

Can be used in electrical outlets where insects like to hide. Unlike traditional spray or steam treatments.

Perfect for treating sensitive environments. It is safe and non-toxic

There are many reasons to choose this non-toxic, pesticide free method of eliminating bed bugs. It is convenient and cost-effective, and its a “green” alternative to pesticides. Cryonite is an effective tool when used alone or in conjunction with conventional crack and crevice treatments. Give us a call today for a free quotation 416-840-4040

Q. Each day, we have up to ten bees in our basement where our children play. We capture them and release them outside. Is it possible that we have a bee’s nest somewhere in the house? Can a professional tell where they’re coming from?

A. A professional will look for entry points around the perimeter. There could be a nest in your walls. Check for gaps around plumbing hose bibs, dryer vents or other possible gaps in your exterior walls.

Q. We have suddenly noticed an odd shaped Bee Hive in our Maple Tree. The bees (black) fly in and out. Definitely does not look like a regular bee hive with honey in it. We are not sure how to get rid of it or even if it is wise to touch it. Please advise.

A. They could be hornets which can be dangerous if provoked.

Q. For the last three years around the middle of August I get wasps swarming above my front door near the eaves. Why would they do this? A. They may have a nest in the soffit or they may be gathering wood to make their paper nest.

Q. There is a lot of bees or wasps that fly in and out of a cement slab. The slab is lifted a bit and the pests seem to come and go and then are quiet during the evening they haven’t stung yet but fly towards and around you when you get near. I sprayed a bunch of raid wasp and bee nest under and all around the slab at night nothing came out while I was spraying, but now there seems to be more activity and more flying and hovering around the slab.

A. You could try filling the hole with sand but they may find another exit or create one. Ground wasp nests can be difficult to eliminate because the actual nest may be some distance from the entry hole. Aerosol sprays can not reach the nest. A residual insecticide dust available to licensed professionals is a better choice.

Q. I am looking for a good residual insecticide product to spray these carpenter bees. Also I understand there is a powder that works to control the larva. I got some pest control people over but I am concerned that these bees may return and want to get the right product.

A. Most insecticide sprays available to the general public have little residual effect. Please see our website www.pestservices.ca/products.aspx.

Q. I have a wasp nest. The entrance is a small hole in the siding of my house, beside my front door. The information I have read says that they will not use this place next year, so it is possible to leave it alone and the problem will fix it’s self next year?

A. Wasps do not go back to an old nest next year. Plug up the hole in the winter.

What Are Bedbugs?

Bed bugs are insects that feed on human blood. Bed bugs

have a one-year life span during which time a female can lay 200-

400 eggs depending on food supply and temperature. Eggs hatch

in about 10 days.

What Do Bedbug Feed On?

Bed bugs prefer to feed on human blood, but will also bite mammals and birds. Bed bugs bite at night, and will bite all over a human body, especially around the face, neck, upper torso, arms and hands. Bed bugs can survive up to one year without feeding. Both male and female bed bugs bite.

Can I Get Sick From Bedbugs?

There are no known cases of infectious disease transmitted by bed bug bites. Most people are not aware that they have been bitten but some people are more sensitive to the bite and may have a localized reaction. Scratching the bitten areas can lead to infection.

How Do I Know These Are Bedbug Bites?

When bed bugs bite people, they inject their saliva into the biting area, causing the skin to become irritated and inflamed. Individual responses to bed bug bites will vary. The skin lesion from bed bug bites may go unnoticed, or be mistaken for flea or mosquito bites or other skin conditions.

Four types of skin rashes have been described in the literature:

1. The most common rash is made up of localized red and itchy flat lesions. The classical

bed bug bites could be presented in a linear fashion in a group of three, which is called

“breakfast, lunch, and dinner”.

2. Small raised red swelling lesions are also common.

3. In rare cases, people may develop large raised, often itchy, red welts.

4. In people with high sensitivity to bed bug saliva, people may develop a lump filled with

blood or fluid.

What Do Bedbugs Look Like?

As adults, bedbugs have oval-shaped bodies with no wings. Prior to feeding, they are about 1/4 inch long and flat as paper. After feeding, they turn dark red and become bloated. Eggs are whitish, pear-shaped and about the size of a pinhead. Clusters of 10-50 eggs can be found in cracks and crevices.

How Did Bedbugs Get In My Home?

Bed bugs are often carried into a home on objects such as used furniture and clothing. Bedbugs can be brought in by an overnight guest or brought home from travelling abroad. Bed bugs can also travel from apartment to apartment along pipes, electrical wiring and other openings. If the infestation is heavy, a sweet smell may be noticed in the room.

What Can I Do If I Have Bed bugs?

The best method to deal with bed bugs is Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which combines a variety of techniques and products that pose the least risk to human health and the environment.

Please see our Top 10 Things To Help Eliminate Bedbugs. These suggestions come directly from our seasoned and experienced technicians and the recommendations of Toronto Health.

If you choose to treat the infestation with an insecticide, call a Professional Pest Control Service for more information. Use the least toxic product available and follow all manufacturers’ instructions.

Whether you choose Integrated Pest Management or insecticides, you may continue to see some living bed bugs for up to ten days. This is normal. If you continue to see a large number of bed bugs after two weeks, contact a professional pest control service

The increase in the epidemic of bedbugs has caused an increase in hysteria, night terrors and phones ringing here at Pest Control Toronto. Everyday we get calls from people frantic to get rid of this problem. Who can blame them? these creatures have taken over thier beds, homes and in some cases their lives. It doesnt just effect low income areas either. Well known and highly reputable hotels and establishments have even been invaded with these creatures.

So what is to be done about them? First of all don’t panic. As many negative assossiations that you have with them, they can be dealt with. The first thing you are going to want is a mattress encasement, these differ from mattress covers. A Mattress encasement literally encases the mattress with a bedbug proof fabric and zipper. We also recommend and carry, boxspring and pillow covers. This step literally solves half the problem for you. Any new eggs or live bugs that are in the mattress, boxspring or pillows are sealed in and cannot get out and bite you.

This leaves the dwelling area to be treated. For this step you are going to want to call your local pest control company. You can reach us at 416-840-4040 or visit our website, PestServices.ca. We service the entire GTA including Ajax, Brampton, Markham, Mississauga, Pickering, Rexdale, Scarborough, Thornhill and Vaughan. When you speak with a technician you should ask questions about what type of treatments they offer and what you need to do in preperation. You need to repeat these treatments every two weeks until the problem is gone.

“The common bed bug is without a doubt the most universally detested of the various domesticated insects that have become unwelcome guests in the dwellings of mankind”

John Joy (1935)

Most people have never seen a bed bug and only heard of them through the old nursery rhyme Good night sleep tight. Until the last 5 years, even pest control professionals were not getting calls. Bedbugs are a huge problem in Toronto and the GTA. We are specialists at how to get rid of bed bugs. Do you have a question about bedbugs? Please read the information below. Please see our bedbug FAQ. Do you still have questions?

When fighting a bedbug infestation the most important thing to consider is that you are dealing with a bug that has a lifecycle. The most crucial step in eliminating these bugs is diligence and persistent treatment until elimination is complete. Treatment must be completed within every 2-3 weeks in order to treat the newly hatched bedbugs.

Bed bug infestations were common before World War II. But with improvements in hygiene, and especially the widespread use of DDT during the 1940s and ‘50s, the bugs all but vanished. The pests remained fairly prevalent, in other regions of the world including Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe. In recent years, bed bugs have also made a comeback in the North America, this is partially due to the increase in world travel as well as Intergrated Pest Management strategies and pest-targeted treatment. As treatments have moved away from spraying large amounts of insecticide and towards pest-targeted treatments such as baits. Bedbugs are increasingly being encountered in homes, apartments, hotels, motels, health care facilities, dormitories, shelters, schools, and modes of transport. Other places where bed bugs sometimes appear include movie theaters, laundries/dry cleaners, furniture rental outlets and office buildings..

They are sometimes mistaken for ticks or cockroaches. The immature (nymphs) resemble the adults, but are smaller and lighter in color. Bed bugs do not fly, but can move rapidly over floors, walls, ceilings and other surfaces. Female bed bugs lay their eggs in secluded areas, depositing 1, 2 or more eggs per day and hundreds during a lifetime. The eggs are tiny, whitish, and hard to see on most surfaces without magnification (individual eggs are about the size of a dust speck). When first laid, the eggs are sticky, causing them to adhere to surfaces. Newly hatched nymphs are straw-colored and no bigger than a pinhead. As they grow, they molt (shed their skin) five times before reaching maturity. A blood meal is needed between each successive molt. Under favorable conditions (70-80°F), the bugs can complete development in as little as a month, producing three or more generations per year. Cooler temperatures or limited access to blood extends the development time. Bed bugs are resilient. Nymphs can survive months without feeding and the adults for more than a year. Infestations therefore are unlikely to diminish by leaving premises unoccupied. They prefer feeding on humans, it will also bite other warm-blooded animals, including dogs, cats, birds and rodents.

Bed bugs can live in almost any crevice or protected location. The most common place to find them is the bed and the baseboards. Bed bugs often hide within seams, tufts and crevices of the mattress, box spring, bed frame and headboard.
Bed bugs are tiny reddish and brown insects that cause discomfort and anxiety to some people. The most common bed bug symptom that indicates the presence of bed bugs more than the other symptom is the bites themselves; usually appearing as red marks on the skin. Their bites are generally itchy; causing a red irriation on the skin. Localized swellings of the skin as well as blisters around red marks are also some of the symptoms. There is no known health problems assosiated with bed bug bites. However the uneasiness they bring to peoples live causes them great stress.

Bed bug bites are not known to be harmful to the body and they usually fade after few days. However, if they fail to fade for weeks, then, please seek a doctor’s help to ensure that no problems would occur. You can experience certain allergic reactions such as anaphylactic shocks to bed bug bites you should also go to the doctor and seek the necessary help. This would be very helpful in ensuring your health and avoidance of further health problems as well.

Bed bugs are not so easy to find in your home and are very tiny about 3/8 inches long and move quickly. If you do a proper inspection and you happen to find larvae and eggs, then, you probably have bed bugs in your home.

Bed bugs are active mainly at night between 3.00 and 5.00 am. During the daytime, they prefer to hide close to where people sleep. Their flattened bodies enable them to fit into tiny crevices — especially those associated with mattresses, box springs, bed frames and headboards. Bed bugs do not have nests like ants or bees, but do tend to congregate in habitual hiding places. Characteristically, these areas are marked by dark spotting and staining, which is the dried excrement of the bugs. Also present will be eggs and eggshells, the brownish molted skins of maturing nymphs and the bugs themselves. Another telltale though less frequent sign is rusty or reddish blood smears on bed sheets or mattresses from crushing an engorged bed bug.

Bed bugs prefer to hide close to where they feed usually about 10-15 feet from their next meal. Initial infestations tend to be around beds, but the bugs eventually may become scattered throughout the bedroom, occupying any crevice or protected location. They also may spread to adjacent rooms or apartments.

Bed bugs usually bite people at night while they are sleeping. They feed by piercing the skin which they withdraw blood. Engorgement takes about three to 10 minutes, yet the person rarely knows it’s happening.

Conventional insect repellents, like those used to deter ticks and mosquitoes, do not appear to be effective against bed bugs. Attempting to avoid being bitten by applying insect repellent at bedtime is not recommended. Sleeping with the lights on is not likely to deter hungry bed bugs either.
Do I Have to Throw Out the Bed?
Eliminating bed bugs from beds can be challenging. If there are holes or tears in the fabric, the bugs and eggs may be inside, as well as outside. There also are restrictions on how beds can be treated with pesticides. For these reasons, companies sometimes recommend that beds be discarded, especially when heavily infested or in poor condition. Another option is to encase both the mattress and box spring in a protective cover like those used for allergy relief. Encasements specifically designed to help protect against bed bugs are available through The Allergy Guy or Rest Assured MC. Once the cover is installed and zipped shut, any bugs which happen to be inside are entombed and eventually will die. Encasements also help protect newly purchased beds, and make it easier to spot and destroy any bugs residing on the outer surface during subsequent examination. Keeping the cover on for more than 12 months will ensure that they do not survive and you can get a peaceful sleep Encasements will not, however, keep bed bugs from crawling onto a bed and biting a sleeping person.

Remember to hire a trained professional to combat the problem and encase your mattress.

Top 10 Bedbug Elimination Tips

1. Consult with your local health department or a professional Pest Control operator to confirm that you have bed bugs. Look on our website at the signs of bed bugs infestation. Call one of our technicians and tell them what you are noticing, seeing, and feeling.

2. If you think you have a bed bug problem, check for live bed bugs or shells in the following areas:

• The undersides, seams, creases, and folds of mattresses, box springs, couches, pillows, cushions and curtains.

• Cracks and crevices in the bed frame and head board, the walls and the baseboards

• Between the cushions of couches and chairs

• Under area rugs and the edges of carpets

• In drawers and dressers

• Behind baseboards, around window and door casings, electrical plates and under loose wallpaper, paintings and posters

• In telephones, radios, and clocks

3. Toronto Health says “the best method to deal with bedbugs is Integrated Pest Management”. Please read more about Integrated Pest Management. Now that you know you have a problem, you should talk to a pest control company about managing and eliminating your problem. Please call our Toronto Bedbug Specialists at 416-840-4040.

4. Use a nozzle attachment on the vacuum to capture the bed bugs and their eggs. Vacuum all crevices on your mattress, bed frame, baseboards and any objects close to the bed. It is essential to vacuum daily and empty the vacuum immediately.

5. Wash all your linens in the hottest water possible and place them in a hot dryer for 20 minutes. Consider covering your pillows and mattress with mattress and pillow encasements. We carry mattress encasements, box spring encasements and pillow encasements both in store and online. Please see our online store.

6. Remove all unnecessary clutter.

7. Seal cracks and crevices between baseboards, on wood bed frames, floors and walls with caulking. Repair or remove peeling wallpaper, tighten loose light switch covers, and seal any openings where pipes, wires or other utilities come into your home (pay special attention to walls that are shared between apartments).

8. Monitor daily by setting out glue boards or sticky tape (carpet tape works well) to catch the bed bugs. Closely examine any items that you are bringing into your home.

9. Continue with any treatments every two weeks until your problem is gone. This is so you can break the life cycle of the bedbugs.

10. Make sure to continue sleeping in your own bed. This will draw the bedbugs out so they can get over the insecticide and allow the treatments to work to reach full elimination.
